Scripps National Spelling Bee
216 imagesThe 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee was held at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The Winner was Anamika Veeramani, 14, of North Royalton, Ohio. She's an eighth grader who attends the Incarnate Word Academy. Spellers from around the 50 states in US as well as countries such as Canada and Jamaica took part in the competition. The winner, in addition to the trophy, took home $30,000 in cash from Scripps, $2,500 savings bond and reference library from Merriam-Webster, $5,000 scholarship from Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation, and $2,700 in reference works and test prep materials from Encyclopedia Britannica
53 imagesThe 84th Scripps National Spelling Bee was held from May 31 - June 2, 2011 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland near Washington, D.C. The champion was 14-year-old Sukanya Roy, who was the fourth consecutive person of Indian descent to win the competition. 275 spellers gathered in Maryland for the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
